of AF performance. that contain EG has been reponed to result in irreversible damage to renal, hepatic, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems, and is a cause of death in household pets and other animals.2-4 It is not known why some animals ingest EGcontaining products. Although there are reports suggesting that the "sweet" taste of EG, and of products containing it, may lead to ingestion of lethal quantities,2.s the assumption that such materials are highly palatable to animals has not been empirically tested. To human beings, EG reponedly tastes sweet; to animals, its chemosensory qualities are unknown. If this substance is, in fact, highlyattractive to animals, it is conceivable that odor influences such attraction (perhaps analogous to the role of odor in human "taste" perception),6 although taste (eg, sweetness) or oral tactile sensations (eg, warmth) may also be involved. The purpose of the experiments reponed here was to evaluate the initial investigative responses of dogs to EG-based antifreeze (AF) at concentrations commonly used in automotive cooling systems, as well as to equivalent concentrations of EG and propylene glycol (PG). Water and a 20% aqueous sucrose solution served as comparision stimuli. In addition, we determined whether food and water deprivation influences such responses.

Potential Antifreeze compounds in Present-day Martian Seepage Groundwater
Is the recently found seepage groundwater on Mars pure H2O, or mixed with salts and other antifreeze compounds? Given the surface conditions of Mars, it is unlikely that pure water could either exist in its liquid state or have shaped Mars’ fluid erosional landforms (gullies, channels, and valley networks). More likely is that Mars’ seepage groundwater contains antifreeze and salt compounds tha...

متن کاملDegradation of High Concentrations of Glycols , Antifreeze , and Deicing Fluids
A microbial consortium (EG-c) capable of degrading high concentrations of glycol-based waste was isolated from soil enrichments. The isolate primarily responsible for glycol degradation was a gram-negative rod (EG-y) that produced a water-soluble pigment. Initial laboratory experiments measured the degradation of ethylene glycol (EG) and propylene glycol (PG) at 25OC. Cell biomass optical densi...

Presumptive Secondary Ethylene Glycol (Antifreeze) Toxicity in a Turkey Vulture (A Case Report)
A presumptive diagnosis of secondary ethylene glycol toxicity in a female Turkey vulture (Cathartes aura) was made depending on the histopathological changes found in the renal tubules and presence of Isospora spp. of non-avian type within the colon. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of possible secondary ethylene glycol toxicity in a Turkey vulture in Louisiana Stat...
